Stubborn, strong-willed and pragmatic, Avery is good at what she does. Ship construction is in her blood – she’ll fix up anything you put in front of her, especially if it’s a Corellian model. She bounces from system to system, never staying in one spot more than a year, but creating quite a reputation for herself in that time before shedding the alias like a skin and moving on.
Trust is hard to earn from her – she mostly works alone and never lets anyone meddle in her personal life. Her past is completely off limits, and if someone pries too hard, they find themselves in need of a new mechanic and often a doctor. She grew up learning how to defend herself and is decent in a fight, often besting her opponents because they underestimate her skill and quickness. Her blaster skills are acceptable as well - she makes a point of practicing with it at least once a week. But above all, she's fair and good hearted, demanding wages that reflect the amount of work that is actually done, and donates most of what she earns to local charities, retaining just enough to eat and fix up her ship. Avery would rather lend a helping hand that throw a punch, although she won’t hesitate to do so if it situation warrants it.
As a strong sabacc player and moderate drinker, she doesn’t mind the cantina scene, and has been known to have her fair share of one night stands. But she never allows anyone to get close to her and takes everything in moderation. Her goal is to be a vague memory, someone that came, saw, and disappeared, never to be thought of again. She fully realizes that every day might be her last of freedom or life. She values her independence and is secretly terrified that some organization – Jedi, Sith or otherwise – will try to take it away.
Even though she’s often viewed as a mere mechanic, Avery’s much more intelligent that she appears. Well versed in history and current events, she can hold her own in almost any debate, even philosophical ones. She also relies on instinct a great deal and has learned to trust it. Since neither her future or past are too bright, she tends to concentrate on the present and the job/task at hand.
Born in Coronet City, Avery Sky was the second child of Elise and Martin Sky, owner and CEO of the Corellian Engineering Corporation, one of the largest spacecraft manufacturer in Corellia and the Galaxy. The company was founded hundreds of years ago by her ancestor, Maxcilleous Sky, and handed down parent to oldest child. The ownership of the company was planned to pass to Avery’s older brother, Joshua, who was two years her senior.
One of the defining traits of the Sky family was their work ethic. Martin believed, as his fathers’ before him, that in order to run a spacecraft building industry, one had to know how to actually build spacecrafts. He split his time between the boardroom and working on the production line, often taking his two young children with him. Avery grew up around ships and fell in love with them at an early age.
However, her world fell apart when she was six. A Jedi came to her father asking for a custom ship and noticed that Avery was a force sensitive. He attempted to convince her parents to let her train to be a Jedi, but her parents said no. Little did they know that he was a Sith sleeper agent, feeding information about the Jedi to the other side. He passed along her location to their Council, and the Sith took matters into their own hands by murdering Martin, Elise and Joshua to insure Avery would not attempt to return home once her training with them began. However, Avery was in the factory at the time and managed to escape with the help of a worker, Furch Varnik, a close family friend.
For the next years of her life, she posed as Varnik’s daughter, became a starship mechanic, and bounced around planet to planet under different identities looking for work. After he died, she inherited his ship and takes a zealous amount of pride in the rust bucket. Because of her past, she is opposed to both sides of the force, believing the Sith to be purely evil and the Jedi Order to be a corrupt cult. She represses her Force abilities as much as she can, but follows hunches and is decent with a blaster.
